OUR BELIEFS
THE GOSPEL
We believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ lies at the heart of the Christian faith. Because of our sins, we are unable to live lives pleasing to God. As a result we deserve God’s justice for our sins – death. The gospel is God’s message of good news to us sinners: that instead Jesus lived the perfect life that we could not. He died for our sins on the cross, was buried and on the third day He was raised to life (1 Cor 15:3-5).
Jesus, truly God and truly man, has done everything necessary for our sins to be forgiven, to restore us to God our Father, to seal us with the gift of the Holy Spirit and ensure that we will be raised with Him to eternal life on the Last Day. We receive this good news of grace by faith alone, as a gift from God and not because of any merit of our own (Eph 2:8-9). This gospel not only transforms us when we first believe it, but continues to transform our lives until our last breath on earth.
THE CONFESSIONS OF THE CHURCH
We hold to the creeds and confessions of the Ancient and Reformed Church. While we believe these confessions are subordinate to Scripture, we believe that they are an accurate and faithful summary of the teachings of Scripture (2 Thess 2:15). We hold to the Westminster Standards, which include the Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. We hold to these confessions because we recognise that we do not exist in isolation, but are connected to the universal and apostolic church with its two-thousand years of rich history (Jude 1:3).
THE BIBLE
We believe that the Bible is God’s inspired and perfect Word. It is entirely sufficient for our spiritual needs, it is clear to understand, and it is the final authority for how we should live in this life (2 Tim 3:16-17). Therefore we are convinced that all the Scriptures must be diligently studied and faithfully preached. Above all, we believe that the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, points us to our gracious and merciful Saviour Jesus Christ and His gospel (Lk 24:27).
