Why did the Apostle Paul write this letter to Timothy? Timothy was Paul’s young understudy. Timothy had been ordained as an elder and was now serving as an elder at the church in Ephesus. This church was facing some serious challenges. False teachers had infiltrated the church, even the leadership of the church, and were spreading their heresies – confusing the congregation and leading some of them astray. Paul writes this letter to Timothy, inspired by the Holy Spirit, instructing him on how to deal with false teachers. The scope of the letter is broader than only that, it contains general instruction for the church regarding prayer and worship and qualifications for elders and deacons.

Through this series, we will see that this letter contains Christ’s guidance to Christ’s church, even our little congregation right here in Waterfall, South Africa.
